EVENT: LIVING WITH ASTHMA PATIENT CONFERENCE

Asthma Society of Ireland holding Ireland’s largest patient event

WHAT: To mark the launch of their new five year strategy, the Asthma Society of Ireland will be holding Ireland’s largest patient event for all those living with asthma in Ireland.  This ‘Living with Asthma’ event will be a patient focused event, which aims to inform, involve, and engage all those affected by asthma: people with asthma, their parents/carers and family members.

WHERE:  Wood Quay Venue, Dublin City Council Civic Offices, Wood Quay, D8

WHEN:  Monday, February 23rdfrom 2.30 – 4.30pm

WHY: The Asthma Society of Ireland is holding this event to highlight the findings of their new research.  Approximately one person a week dies as a result of asthma, yet 90% of these deaths are preventable.  From the ‘Living with Asthma’ study of asthma patients, a large number of those surveyed believe that asthma has robbed them of their lives and they feel it is not taken seriously enough.  It was also found that their health was influenced by physical factors and many of the participants considered themselves to be unhealthy. Guest speakers and asthma patients will discussthe stigma surrounding asthma and how it can be eliminated, share their experiences and discuss the results of the ‘Living with Asthma’ research.

FORMAT OF EVENT:

2.30pm – 2.45pm       Registration

2.45pm – 3.45pm       Presentations

3.45pm – 4.30pm       Patient Discussion | Q&A

Presentations by:

Sharon Cosgrove, CEO Asthma Society of Ireland

Mary Hughes, Lecturer in Children’s Nursing at University College Dublin – Report on Living with Asthma Research

Caroline Heffernan, CF Ireland, Patient Advocate – The Difference a Patient can make
