Fergus Goodbody Memorial Lecture on Lung Fibrosis – ILFA – Feb. 14th

The Irish Lung Fibrosis Association is pleased to announce that the Fergus Goodbody Memorial Lecture on Lung Fibrosis will take place on Tuesday 14th February 2017, from 17.30-20.00 at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, St Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2.

The key-note speaker Professor Jürgen Behr from Munich, will deliver a state of the art lecture entitled “Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis – Novel Trends in Diagnosis and Treatment” and will cover:
• interstitial lung abnormalities in the general population
• diagnostic procedures including transbronchial lung cryobiopsy
• pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments

Dr Emmet McGrath, Consultant Respiratory Physician, St Vincent’s University Hospital will give a presentation entitled “Interstitial Lung Disease – The Diagnostic Pathway”.

The meeting will be chaired by Professor Jim Egan, Consultant Respiratory Physician, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.
This seminar is open to all healthcare professionals with an interest in Interstitial Lung Disease.

Mount Carmel Hospital Patient Records

To: All former patients of Mount Carmel Hospital

The liquidators of Mount Carmel Medical Group (South Dublin) Limited (In liquidation), together with St. James’s Hospital, are pleased to announce that the patient files and samples of former patients of Mount Carmel Hospital are due to be transferred into the care and custody of St. James’s Hospital on 5 January 2017 in order to safeguard these records into the future.

After this transfer takes place, the medical records of former patients of Mount Carmel Hospital will be held by St. James’s Hospital, with the exception of obstetric ultrasound images taken during the period June 2007 and February 2014. These records will be retained by Mount Carmel Hospital as, for technical reasons, they cannot be transferred to St. James’s Hospital.

If you wish to access all or any part of your medical records, you may do so by making a written request to the following address: Medical Records Department, St. James Hospital, James’s Street, Dublin 8, or by emailing: medrecords@stjames.ie

If you also require your obstetric scan images, please indicate this in your request. Alternatively, you may access your obstetric scan images by making a written request to the following address: The Liquidators, Mount Carmel Hospital, Duff & Phelps, Molyneux House, Bride Street, Dublin 8, or by emailing: dp.mch.medicalrecords@duffandphelps.com

Please note that your rights under the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003 will not be affected in any way by the transfer of your medical records to St. James’s Hospital as described above. Mount Carmel Hospital and St. James’s Hospital are committed to assisting you in upholding and asserting those rights.

If you are not satisfied that your rights under the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003 have been upheld in relation to your medical records as a former patient of Mount Carmel Hospital, you will be entitled to make a complaint to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. Please see www.dataprotection.ie for further details.

Irish Migraine Association announce specialist migraine seminar for Health Professionals
On Wednesday 15th March, The Migraine Association of Ireland will present a seminar for GPs and other health professionals, on the neurological condition, Migraine.
It takes place from 6.30 – 9pm at the Old Lecture Hall, St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin 4.
This 2 hour event is presented by one of Ireland’s leading migraine and headache experts, Dr Eddie O’Sullivan, Clinical Director, The Migraine Clinic, Cork University Hospital.
Dr O’Sullivan, will concentrate on the diagnosis of different types of migraine (e.g. menstrual migraine, exercise related migraine, migraine in children) and the correct
treatment and medications applicable to those conditions. This seminar hopes to give GPs the confidence to differentiate migraine and other headaches from sinister headaches.
Dr O’Sullivan will also advise on the current treatments available to chronic migraine sufferers through the nationwide migraine clinics and he will present a forecast of the new and emerging treatments for migraine and other headache disorders.
